Dan Polk has been an elementary teacher on the South Coast in Coos Bay, Oregon for the last twenty-two years. Scholar, filmmaker, songwriter, surfer, and educational leader, Dan has had many awards and recognitions, including a Regent's Fellowship at the University of Nebraska and a two-year teaching/mentorship with the National Science Foundation.

Dan was recognized as the Wal-Mart Corporation's Teacher Of The Year for 2008 and is currently nominated for the Oregon Teacher Of The Year for 2009-2010.

He holds a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
